May Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The last month of school! Can you believe it? The year has gone by so quickly.

I will send a list of suggestions for the summer the last week of school. I encourage parents to find time to "play school" as often as possible. If you kept the workbooks you might have your child go through them again to review the skills. Please keep the list of sight words and drill as often as possible. The students can write words and sentences too. Most of all, please read to your child and have them read to you. Visit the library often.

The carnival was a big success! I believe all the kids had a great time. Thank you to all the parents who sent "chocolate" items for our basket, baked for the sweet shop, volunteered at a booth, or helped with set or take down. PTO does so much for the school.

I was not able to go on our Exploration Place field trip but the substitute told me the children were so well behaved and polite! The favorite sights seemed to be the castle, the shark display, and the Kansas tornado. I was very proud of the students for their good cooperation and behavior for the substitutes while I was gone for some medical tests.

I also want you to know that I have decided to retire at the end of this year. I have taught at Goddard for 33 years and have loved working with Kindergartners. It will be very hard to leave! Oak Street will hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for your support this year.
I hope the students have a fun summer and a great first grade year. Judy Wacker
